If you've listened to a radio in the past week, you might have heard the eerily catchy yet funny song entitled "Royals". The tune makes fun of the stereotypical rap songs being played nowadays. Hooks lines include:

"But every songs' like: gold-teeth, grey-goose, trippin' in the bathroom, blood-stains, ball-gowns, trashin' a hotel room. We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams."

Ella, the singer/songwriter of this stuck-in-my-head song is a newbie to the music scene. Her first song, The Love Club, dropped March of this year. Although the music video has yet been released in America, you can be assured that there will be an already-loyal fanbase clammoring to get their hands on it when it is. Yelich-O'Connor's newest has already recieved more than 10 million hits on Youtube alone, and has even made it's way onto radio stations across the American nation.

So who is this artist? Ella is a self-made, sixteen-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand. The name Lorde is a stage name that she uses, and really, who wouldn't take up a stage name when having the surname of Yelich-O'Connor? Ella was taken in by an agent after singing at a talent show at the age of thirteen. Since then she's been writing and recording her own songs under a label from Universal. When her song, Royals, was released in New Zealand it stayed at the top position of the charts for three weeks, just as soon as she had released it! Ella doesn't seem very affected by her new fame, however. Her newest music video features four of her best friends doing various tasks and just lazing around, demonstrating her outlook on how teens actually behave. Yelich-O. detests both rap music and the stereotypes of teens that have been made. She is constantly worrying about how her songs 'feel' and if they work well with her persona. She is scheduled to release her new album, Pure Heroine (take that as you will), very soon. At the moment she has three singles: The Love Club, Tennis Court, and Royals. She is also rumored to have a new song entitled "Ribs", but reliable sources have not yet been found mentioning this. She's growing a rapid following, so be sure to be on the look-out for more of her. Because I'm sure you will be seeing a lot more of her.
